The Prairie Diva Story

Picture
Hi and Welcome to the Prairie Diva website!
I didn't start out thinking that one day I would be sitting in a spare bedroom making jewelry out of vintage buttons, baubles, beads and much more. But, due to a change in careers and some major life changes the idea to form Prairie Diva was born while driving through the Flint Hills of Kansas.
My mother, Evelyn taught me to sew on her Singer sewing machine when I was about 5. I moved from making simple purses to making most of my clothes during my childhood. My love for buttons in particular came from our excursions to Elsie's Fabrics  in Hillsboro, Kansas. After choosing the right pattern and fabric the adventure began to find the perfect buttons to complete the outfit. I would look forward to pulling out the many trays of buttons in the large button cabinet and placing different ones on the fabric to finally find the right one. While I outgrew some of those rituals, my love for buttons has always remained. When Mom passed away in 2009, as the only daughter I was blessed with all her sewing and craft boxes. A treasure trove of buttons came into my possession and the desire to create a lasting memory of my mother became Prairie Diva. The first bracelets I made were from the buttons that would grace my mother's nursing uniform back in the day when nurses wore whites. I decided that a bracelet of those buttons for a sister-in-law who is a nurse would be a fun Christmas present to treasure Mom. Of course other bracelets then needed to be made for other family and friends. Just out of a whim, I posted what I was doing on Facebook and well.....the rest is history as I became amazed at the response of what I thought would just be a passing thing has become my new business venture. Luckily my BFF, Karen also received a bracelet and decided that she would love to share this adventure with me!
So please browse the web site and see some of the work we have done. We have some designs that are available for purchase or would love to have special buttons from your family that we could make a one-of-a-kind memory for you as well!
